Methods utilized in the auTzen lab
The Autzen Lab utilizes SF9 and HEK293 cell lines for protein expression and production in addition to bacteria for smaller, soluble proteins and enzymes. We have a Shimadzu HPLC with an autoloader, in addition to fluorescence and photo diode array detectors for assessing the stability of the proteins we are working on. The lab employs single-particle cryo-EM for membrane protein structural determination and are core users at CFIM on campus. We combine single-particle cryo-EM with biochemical, biophysical and pharmacological methods for functional characterizations utilizing specialized equipment available within the Molecular and Translational Pharmacology research theme at the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
